Born July 18th, 1918 in a South African village, Nelson Mandela was the first in his family to attend school.He was a brilliant student who yet had early signs of rebellion that led to his expulsion from college for his participation in a boycott of the school.

Mandela came close to studying law, contrary to expectations that he would succeed his father as the chief of his tribe.

In 1944, Nelson Mandela became a member in good standing of the African National Congress (ANC).

 Mandela was a member of a group that established the ANC youth league, a grassroots organization that employed boycotts, strikes, and general civil disobedience to further its cause. This left-wing political party sought to grant equal rights and freedoms to the entire nation.

The ANC’s mission was to bring all Africans together and create an African nation.

In 1948 the national party was elected to government and following that it instituted a legal system of racial segregation called apartheid said Nelson Mandela.Mandela and the ANCYL persisted in nonviolently opposing racist laws at the same time. Mandela, for instance, played a key role in the Define campaign in 1952 and the Congress of the People in 1955. He also served as a lawyer for oppressed black South Africans by founding the nation’s first black law firm.

By the end of 1956, Mandela and a group of roughly 150 demonstrators were jailed on accusations of treason due to his advocacy, and he was swiftly becoming an enemy of the government.

The Pan Africanist Congress was founded in 1959 by a group of militant Africans who suggested that the peaceful strategy was ineffective after a protracted trial. Around this time, the peaceful approach was becoming more and more unpopular among Africans.

Soon after Mandela changed his position and proposed that armed conflicts were the only way to end apartheid rule.

Mandela was imprisoned on August 5, 1962, for a strike he had organized the year before. Although he had been given a five-year prison term, he actually spent the next 27 years behind bars.

 Mandela was accused of sabotage, treason, and violent conspiracy at the notorious Rivonia trial, which he was already serving a five-year term for. He received a life sentence but narrowly avoided the death penalty.

Mandela’s first 5 years were spent in prison on Robben Island but he was transferred in 1982 he was treated poorly as a black prisoner, however, he did manage to earn a bachelor’s law degree through a correspondence program. During this time, Mandela’s reputation soared and he became a global icon of anti-apartheid resistance.

Mandela was presented with the opportunity to give up his ideals more than once, and each time he rejected, the government offered him his freedom.

Mandela was finally freed on February 11th, 1990,

at the age of 72, following protracted negotiations by the nation’s new president. 

After that, Mandela was elected head of the African National Congress and participated in the negotiations to abolish the laws of apartheid. 

In June 1991 the population registration act was repealed, which meant that racial groups were no longer legally separated. With this, the downfall of apartheid in South Africa had officially begun.

Evelyn Ntoko Mase served as Nelson Mandela’s first wife, while Winnie Madikizela-Mandela served as his second. Six kids were born to Nelson Mandela. Thembekile, Makaziwe, Makgatho, Madiba Thembekile “Thembi”, Zenani, and Zindziswa are the names of his children.

Nelson Mandela was a political figure, philanthropist, and revolutionary against apartheid in South Africa. In the history of the country, he was the first fully representative democratic election to elect a black head of state. In addition, he served 27 years in prison and received the Nobel Peace Prize.

The country held its democratic electric elections on April 27th, 1994 with the ANC taking 62 percent of the vote on May 10th, 1994 Nelson Mandela was sworn in as the first black president of South Africa.

He used the national rugby team as a point of unification for all residents and as a means of projecting a favorable image of the country on the international stage during the course of his term. He also focused on rebuilding the economy. In 1999, when his tenure was over, Mandela stepped down from political office. Although I retired from public life in 2004.

In 2007, Mandela assembled a group of global leaders he called the Elders. Among those in attendance were Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, and Kofi Annan.

The group worked to find solutions for global issues like AIDS, poverty, and climate change. He received various awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Nelson Mandela is one person who carried on fighting for a better society even after he retired from public life.
